Last Christmas, I took a trip up to Windsor.  Ended up at the Casino and saw this musical act; I caught some neat photos from the second floor.  I really liked the lighting and how the instruments provided background interest for the singer.  It was a tricky little painting!!!  I really liked the mood.  So here is one of two latest creations (other one to come a bit later):

Keyboarding at the Casino, Oil on Canvas, 12x10 inches

This painting will be available at the Orleans Art Festival at the Shenkman Centre on June 1-3, 2012.  There will be a 'Meet the Artists' event on Saturday the 2nd that I will be attending.  More details later!

Joel & Kim

Tonight's models were a great fit--they seemed to have chemistry and had fun being there.  Always easier to draw/paint when that happens--it somehow inspires the creative spirit.  Plus they had great physique!  I am including a couple of gesture drawings (I think they're under 3 minutes each?) just because they were so much fun to do.  Here they are:

A beautiful day but I've gotta paint!!!

Snowflake Ball 2012

Sold!  To the highest bidder at the Snowflake Ball 2012 at the Hilton Lac-Leamy on April 28.  All proceeds went to CHEO and charity--always nice to be able to contribute to a good cause and brighten up someone's living space at the same time.  http://snowflakeball.com/

Here's the painting:

"The Black Thorn, Ottawa," Oil on Canvas, 30x24 inches

Old memories

In a few weeks it'll be my birthday, and to celebrate I'm planning on going horsebacking riding--it's been a few years since I've ridden, and many since I've ridden properly/taken regular riding lessons.  So to commemorate my fond memories of my equine past, I'm posting a picture of me doing what I like best in the world--many years ago--on vacation in Tofino.

And a picture of other whimsical things I was doing at around the same time...

Two Figures

Two models tonight--I opted to do one at a time except for the last pose--not enough time to do double!  They were pretty interesting poses--wish I could have done both.

This one's a bit discombobulated, but I liked something about it anyhow.
Found a book full of "I've learned" quotes this morning; they are anonymous, only identified by the age of the speaker(s).  Here's one:

"I've learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance."  Age 62
