OAA Awards Show

On Tuesday of this week, my painting, "Autographs, Pierre Bouvier, Simple Plan, Juno Fan Fare, 2012," won an Honourable Mention.  It all happened at the Ottawa Little Theatre; the Ottawa Art Association hosted the event.  Many thanks to the jurors who voted for my work, and to the people who made the event happen.  Here I am with said painting.  Cheers!

Quote of the day:

"There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils.  One is to disbelieve in their existence.  The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them."

Way, way, way too tired to post properly tonight!  But some good news--won an Honourable Mention at the Awards show last night.  Will post tomorrow.  And just got juried into the Orleans Festival for the first weekend of June!  You know you're tired when attempting to make the second coffee in a row, you run pure water through the machine.  That was a while ago.  So now I go running to fight the is crazy indeed.  Will post the figure drawings tomorrow.  Cheers.

Fresh off the easel!

I just finished this little painting; burning the midnight oil again last night.  I originally saw this fellow through the Chapters window off of Sussex in the oncoming dark of evening a few weeks ago--he just looked so engrossed in his reading, and it was something I could relate to.  So here he is in wet oils--should be available at the Ottawa School of Art Boutique in a few weeks, about the middle of May:

Curled Up, Chapters Rideau St., Ottawa, Oil on Canvas, 8x16 inches

Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Awards show tonight!!!

"How Could this Happen to Me"--Simple Plan

I open my eyes
I try to see but I’m blinded by the white light
I can’t remember how
I can’t remember why
I’m lying here tonight

And I can’t stand the pain
And I can’t make it go away
No I can’t stand the pain

How could this happen to me
I made my mistakes
I’ve got no where to run
The night goes on
As I’m fading away
I’m sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

Everybody’s screaming
I try to make a sound but no one hears me
I’m slipping off the edge
I’m hanging by a thread
I wanna start this over again

So I try to hold onto a time when nothing mattered
And I can’t explain what happened
And I can’t erase the things that I’ve done
No I can’t

How could this happen to me
I made my mistakes
I’ve got no where to run
The night goes on
As I’m fading away
I’m sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

I made my mistakes
I’ve got no where to run
The night goes on
As I’m fading away
I’m sick of this life
I just wanna scream
How could this happen to me

Got back earlier from dropping off my Juno painting at the Ottawa Little Theatre for the Awards show set-up.  A small world--met a singer in line in front of me who said she was one of the singers for the Juno festivities at one of the bars.  And many thanks to Patricia Wilmot for your super positive comments on my painting!!!

Robert Doisneau's 100th birthday!  Love his work, especially his photo, "The Kiss"--one of my all-time favourites!

A couple of months ago, I saw a picture of a bunch of people with a I remembered the good times I had with mine.  He was a superstar, followed by paparazzi wherever he went, he was so beautiful--a chow and golden retriever mix.  Had a wicked mean streak, but I loved him to death.  Everywhere I went with him, people would stop me in the street, and drop in awe of how gorgeous this dog was.  A bit of a devil in disguise; a regular Jekyll and Hyde!  Here's to ten good years of a dog that was King, that of all ironies, I got from the pound.  Best dog on the planet--a real love affair--moved with him to three residences, never leaving my hero behind.  Here's a painting I did of the two of us many years ago, when I was doing my BFA:

Pierre Bouvier from Simple Plan

Here's a painting I just finished of one of Canada's great bands, Simple Plan.  Pierre Bouvier and crew were at the Juno Fan Fare in Ottawa on March 31.  Love their music!

Here's the 18x24 oil on gallery canvas:

Many thanks to the police officer who pulled me over this morning, and let me off for some slightly expired stickers.

More news of the day later...:)

I like what happened tonight; my drawings seemed sort of light and airy--don't know why!  I hooked up to the coffee intravenous today--been burning the candle at three ends, it seems.  Gustavo had a neat pose at the end with a gun (replica!) but I missed it.  But here are the other two--I think I like the standing one best; I can't figure out who or what he reminded me of...Michelangelo poses or figures of old art somewhere, but I digress.

Thick and timeless

I had the opportunity to closely examine a very fat anthology of Edgar Allen Poe last week.  I'm thrilled about a couple of poems, so I'm posting some stuff today, and maybe more later.

Annabel Lee

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of ANNABEL LEE;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.

I was a child and she was a child,
In this kingdom by the sea;
But we loved with a love that was more than love-
I and my Annabel Lee;
With a love that the winged seraphs of heaven
Coveted her and me.

And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee;
So that her highborn kinsman came
And bore her away from me,
To shut her up in a sepulchre
In this kingdom by the sea.

The angels, not half so happy in heaven,
Went envying her and me-
Yes!- that was the reason (as all men know,
In this kingdom by the sea)
That the wind came out of the cloud by night,
Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee.

But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we-
Of many far wiser than we-
And neither the angels in heaven above,
Nor the demons down under the sea,
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee.

For the moon never beams without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling- my darling- my life and my bride,
In the sepulchre there by the sea,
In her tomb by the sounding sea.

Awesome Singers!!!

Had a blast at Juno Fan Fare on the weekend; I met some really great singers and had my photo taken with some of them.  I also got up close to Simple Plan--what I really wanted to do!!!!  They play such positive, upbeat music--I'd have to say they're my favourite group right now.  They were all smiles.  I hope to do a portrait of Pierre very soon!  Here are a few shots:

 What a hottie!!!

Looking right at me!!!!!!:D
